Seppeltsfield

Barossa Valley, South Australia, Australia

Heritage & Origins

Seppeltsfield was established in 1851 in the Barossa Valley by Joseph and Johanna Seppelt, just 15 years after the European settlement of South Australia. Rich in Barossan heritage, the estate is regarded as a national treasure that helped shape the history of the Australian wine industry.

Today, Seppeltsfield is a multi-award-winning destination and a vibrant community of wine, food, art, and craft. Visitors can explore the estate’s Cellar Door and Experiences, FINO Seppeltsfield Restaurant, Café at Seppeltsfield, JamFactory Craft & Design Studios, Vasse Virgin Natural Olive Oil Skincare, and Prohibition Distillery. Guests can also enjoy a self-guided history experience, where QR codes across the estate unlock podcast stories about the historic buildings.

Winemaking Philosophy

Following the return of full trademark ownership in 2017, Seppeltsfield has entered a new chapter focused on luxury still wines alongside its renowned fortified collection. The winemaking philosophy balances tradition with innovation, aiming to elevate classic Barossa varieties into elegant, premium expressions.

Key varietals include Shiraz, Grenache, Touriga, and Mataro, crafted in a house style that emphasizes elegance, medium weight, aromatic complexity, and strong ageing potential.

Vision & Sustainability

As part of the Randall Wine Group, Seppeltsfield follows the Freshcare Australian Wine Industry Standard of Sustainable Practice and the Sustainable Winegrowing Australia program. The estate is committed to protecting the natural environment while supporting the long-term future of the Australian wine industry.

Their sustainability efforts focus on improving biodiversity, reducing energy consumption through solar initiatives, minimizing waste through recycling and repurposing, conserving water resources, and reusing vineyard by-products such as grape marc for livestock feed or compost. With nearly 9,000 hectares of land across South Australia, Seppeltsfield aims to create meaningful environmental improvements while leaving the land in a thriving condition for future generations.
