Tasting Notes

Mahogany in color with rich amber hues. The bouquet is lifted and elegant, revealing aromas of lightly toasted almonds, praline, and vanilla nougat.

On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with rich, lingering flavors of roasted nuts and warm spice. Notes of almond skin and praline combine with the smooth warmth of fine brandy spirit, creating a beautifully balanced tawny with layered complexity and a long, satisfying finish.

Winemaking & Heritage

The Para Tawny Collection represents the heart of Seppeltsfield’s fortified wine heritage, named after the Para River that flows through the Barossa Valley.

Para Grand Tawny is crafted using a modified solera system built around large 2000L vats. Individual component wines are first matured in small oak casks for up to 10 years, developing nutty richness and spice complexity. These aged wines are then carefully selected and blended into the solera to maintain a consistent house style and average age.

Fortified with creamy, aromatic brandy spirit and matured in seasoned oak, the wine develops the distinctive nutty and spiced character typical of mature Australian tawny wines. Under the Australian Fortified Classification system, this style falls into the “Grand” category, representing wines with a minimum average blended age of 10 years.
